On March 16, a grand Nowruz celebration was held in the courtyard of the main educational building of Sumgayit State University.

The presenters  appeared on the stage in national costumes, greeted the entire team of the university, local and foreign students and congratulated them on the occasion of the holiday.

Speaking about the ancient traditions of Nowruz holiday, the presenters talked about the unique features of this holiday. It was reported that Novruz is a holiday that is an expression of rich history, traditions, historical roots, and national-spiritual values. Our people have been celebrating this holiday with great enthusiasm for thousands of years. This holiday, which is also considered as Spring holiday among people, not only includes the change of year, the arrival of spring in our country, but also humanism in people, faith in tomorrow.

The rector of the university professor Elkhan Huseynov participated in the event, greeted the event participants, congratulated them on the Nowruz holiday and wished that this holiday would bring sustenance, blessings and prosperity to all our people.

Speaking about the unique philosophy of the holiday, the rector noted that "Nowruz" is a symbol of renewal of life and revival. Prof. Elkhan Huseynov noted that the Nowruz holiday is rooted in the consciousness of our people as the embodiment of abundance, blessing, and kindness, and that this holiday always calls people to unity, peace and calmness. This holiday unites us as a nation, calls for solidarity, as our traditions have lived for centuries and brought to these days. Although Novruz is unique to the entire Turkic world, it is celebrated more magnificently in Azerbaijan. It is an undeniable fact that our nation has an important contribution and share in the establishment and development of Novruz holiday. Although there were strict bans on the Novruz holiday during the years of Soviet rule, our people have always been eager to celebrate this dear holiday. Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, in the first period of his leadership of Azerbaijan, paid special respect to the factors that encouraged the rise of the national spirit, despite the prohibitions of the Soviet government. In parallel with the state building process carried out by the national leader in the second term of his leadership, he tried to fully own the national and moral values of our people. This attracted attention especially in connection with Nowruz holiday. Every year, the Great Leader went out to celebrate with the population on Nowruz and enjoyed the Novruz joys of our people. The National Leader's participation in holiday celebrations, his egg fight with Kosa, and his conversations with Bahar girl made Nowruz events even more cheerful and made people happy. Currently, these traditions are continued by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Calling Novruz the embodiment of our national and moral values, the participation of our head state in holiday, celebrating with the population  and lighting a bonfire in the ancient square of Baku not only increases the festive spirit, but also proves the close unity between the people and the government. After our Bright Victory, holiday bonfires and Nowruz holiday are being celebrated in our liberated territories for the third year already.

Rector professor Elkhan Huseynov lighting the Nowruz bonfire of the university, once again congratulated the team on the occasion of the holiday and wished every family prosperity, happiness and joy.

At the holiday event, the elder of the village-Dede Gorgud wished  a blessing on the occasion of the arrival of Nowruz. Bahar girl, Kosa and Kechel, the main characters of the holiday made the holiday celebration  joyful  with their interesting jokes.

"Novruz Khanchas" prepared by the faculties were exhibited, our national cuisine and clothes, the most beautiful examples of folk creativity and handicrafts were displayed.

At the event, young singer Parviz Mahmudov sang a song composed to the poem "Your masterpiece" dedicated to the dear memory of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev by the director of Sumgayit State Technical College, associate professor Matanat Pirguliyeva.

Dances of the "Sema" dance group of the university, performances of well-known culture and art representatives of our republic were welcomed by the participants of the event.
