According to the order of Scientific Board of Sumgayit State University dated 29.03.2017, department of Azerbaijani history is now functioning under the name of department of history of Azerbaijani and Eastern European nations.

Scientific directions of the department. Scientific research works are conducted about “ The history of national liberation struggle of Azerbaijan”.
In the recent 5 years, 57 articles, more than 100 theses and 43 subject programs have been published by the personnel of the department.
The staff of the department have cooperation with History Institute named after A.A.Bakikhanov, Baku State University and Azerbaijan Pedagogical University, history departments of Ganja State University and the International relations department of Baku Slavic University

Professor Sh.D.Salimov was awarded with badge “Advanced education employee” by Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan Republic for his pedagogical activity (2012), as well as with Honorary diploma of Sumgayit Executive Power for his effective pedagogical activity in training and education of the young generation. (2016).
Awarded with the Order of Honor by the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan (in connection with the 55th anniversary of SSU). (2017)
