On January 23, first meeting of Scientific Board was held in a new composition. Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov informed Board members about the issues on the agenda and notified that new composition of Scientific Board of Sumgayit State University certified by the Order of Education Minister Jeyhun Bayramov № F-04 dated 07.01.2019. He congratulated Board members on this occasion and wished them success.

Later issues on agenda were discussed.

At first, scientific secretary of Board elected, the commissions of Education and science, Socio-economic and financial activity and Discipline instituted. Professor Mukhtar Samadov again elected secretary of Scientific Board for responsibility in his works. Head of the Department of Solid and Semiconductors Physics Professor M.Zarbaliyev elected chairman of Education and science commission, head of the Department of Finance and Accounting L.Abdullayev elected head of Socio-economic and financial activity commission; professor of Department of Information and Computer Technics N.Kazimov elected head of Discipline commission.

Afterwards the report heard about executed works in 2018 at Sumgayit State University. Vice-rector on Humanitarian Issues docent R.Huseynov spoke about analysis of performed works in 2018 in a systematic form. It was noted that orders and instructions of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Cabinet of Ministers, Ministry of Education, as well as decisions of Scientific Board of SSU and orders of Rector executed at SSU. Dissertation Board established for the first time in SSU history. 11 employees got PhD, 2–Doctor of sciences and 6–docent scientific titles. 19 persons’ papers presented to SAC for getting PhD title and 7 persons’ for getting docent scientific title.

Docent R.Huseynov emphasized that Sumgayit State University renews cadre potential with its graduates every year. Involvement of young cadres and specialists to education process confirms firmness of gained success. Our several graduates and coworkers began to work as a laboratory worker, specialist and lecturer in new 2018/2019 academic year. The number of specialties in Doctorate rose this year. 26 PhD students admitted to the Doctor of philosophy program and 7 students to Doctor of sciences program.

Our University operated as a partner university in some grant projects given by European Union and prepared 2 ERASMUS+ projects for 2019, financed by European Commission.

4 International and 4 Republican Scientific conferences held at Sumgayit State University in 2018. Our University cooperates with Institutes of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, signs agreements.

Cooperation is conducted within Russian-Azerbaijani Universities Association in direction of international conferences, seminars, Olympiads, forums, publications, anniversaries and participation at international projects. In 2018, 40 collaborators visited foreign countries for trainings. Our students also took part at conferences and Olympiads held in prestigious universities.

Application of theoretical knowledge gained during the study is the main target of the university. At present, the students of SSU are interning at different enterprises of SOCAR, as well as at international companies functioning in Azerbaijan and abroad. PETKIM Holding of Turkey and other plants are among them.

Several works carried out in reporting year for increasing activity of students. The activity of Student Scientific Society strengthened, structural sections improved. Final scientific seminar dedicated to conducted scientific researches and IV Student scientific conference were held. “Smart Reactor” team of our students was awarded II place for their project in startup tour within “From idea to business” project. “The best article” competition was held among students dedicated to Great leader Heydar Aliyev and the winners were awarded. Our students successfully participated at knowledge contests like “What, where and when” and “Khamsa”.

First debate Forum held at the University. “Subaylar” team of SSU awarded with diploma at 1/8 stage of Azerbaijan Regional Cheerful and Witty Club TV League. Special days, holidays, commemoration days celebrated, meetings were held with well-known scholars, theater and musical collectives, University subbotniks, blood donation campaigns held at the University.

It has become a tradition to hold events and anniversaries dedicated to prominent persons who contributed to our science, literature and art. The event on “Manifesto of a life” dedicated to outstanding writer, literary critic and pedagogue Mir Jalal Pashayev’ 110th anniversary; the meeting dedicated to 80th anniversary of National writer Anar; the event “The story of unfinished life” dedicated to 125th anniversary of literary critic and scholar Bakir Chobanzade; the Student conference dedicated to life and creations of outstanding representative of Azerbaijani romantic literature Huseyn Javid and the event entitled “A scientist illuminating history of our language” dedicated to 110th anniversary of philologist Hadi Mirzazade were welcomed by our students.

Vice-rector on Science and Innovations Professor Ramazan Mammadov gave information about application of reward system on evaluation of employees whose scientific articles issued at impact-factor journals for stimulating scientific-research works. He stressed that “Clarivate Analytics” “Skorpus”, REI is international well-known database. Their services are significant for adapting scientific researches to international standards, as well as for informing our scholars about scientific-research works conducted in the world. The scientists would gain the chance to comparatively evaluate scientific journals and choose journals effectively for publication of their scientific papers.

The Order adopted in the meeting of Scientific Board dated 23.01.2019 on upgrading salary system based on appreciation of scientific-pedagogical activity of lecturers for the purpose of improving welfare of teachers and reinforcing social defense of them. The salaries of lecturers raised by the Order issued by rector of University № R-09 dated 24.01.2019.

Scientific secretary Professor Mukhtar Samadov suggested giving publication right (griffin) to 2 textbooks and 2 subject programs.
