A CAMPAIGN UNDER THE MOTTO “DONATE BLOOD, SAVE LIVES!”
On April 12, blood donation campaign “Donate blood, save lives!” was held at Sumgayit State University related with 70th anniversary of Sumgayit city and 100th anniversary of Red Crescent Society, for children and teenagers suffering from thalassemia and hemophilia.
The purpose of holding the campaign is to stimulate the students for being a donor and to assist Blood bank of the republic and the patients suffering from thalassemia.
Vice-rector on Humanitarian Issues docent Ramiz Huseynov delivered speech and notified: “Thalassemia and hemophilia are heritable blood diseases and blood transferring process has an important role in treatment of these diseases. Blood donation campaigns are regularly held at our university for providing the patients with thalassemia with blood and the charity will be carried on in the future”.
Afterwards, chairwoman of Sumgayit city branch of Red Crescent Society Matanat Maharramova spoke about aim and significance of the humanitarian campaign. She said: “Recently, substantial works executed for treatment of people suffering from hemophilia. As a result, it was achieved to reduce disablement and death rate among patients with hemophilia. Sumgayit State University also holds blood donation campaigns, by supporting this kind of benevolent initiatives. We express gratitude to university administration for creating circumstances to hold the humanist campaign”.
Professor-teaching staff, students and employees of the University, staff of Sumgayit city branch of Red Crescent Society voluntarily joined to this humanist campaign. The health of every donor was checked by hematologists of special medical brigade of Central Blood Bank. The blood that was gained in the campaign, joined by more than 500 lecturers, students and volunteers, will be given to Blood Bank of Hematology and Transfusion Institute of Ministry of Health and will be mainly used for the treatment of patients with thalassemia and hemophilia.
