From July 14 to 21, “Travel to Land of Fire Azerbaijan” Summer School is organized at Sumgayit State University by support of Ministry of Education and Association of Russian-Azerbaijani Universities.

On July 15, rector professor Elkhan Huseynov and participants visited Alley of Honor and commemorated memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev and laid a wreath at his grave.

Professor Elkhan Huseynov emphasized that the coming to power of Heydar Aliyev in 1969 was a turning point in the history of Azerbaijan and marked the beginning of comprehensive reforms that ensured the dynamic and comprehensive development of the republic. The rector spoke about the life and activities of Heydar Aliyev, about the exceptional role of the national leader in the development and strengthening of the independence of Azerbaijan. He noted that the policy aimed at the development of the republic, its statehood, the foundations of which were laid by Heydar Aliyev, who had a great deal of political experience, is successfully implemented by President of the Republic, Ilham Aliyev. As a result of a sound economic policy of the President, Azerbaijan has become a leading state in the Caucasus region.

After that, the guests commemorated the memory of the martyrs who died in the struggle for the independence and territorial integrity of the republic, and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame memorial on the Martyrs Alley. Elmar Khalilov, chairman of the Committee of Independent Trade Unions, spoke about the courage and heroism of the martyrs, about the events of January 20, which became a symbol of national unity and patriotism. He noted that the tragedy of January 20 is perceived as a tragic, but at the same time, a glorious page in the history of our country. Every year on this day, hundreds of thousands of people come to worship the graves of heroes who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the people.
