60 years have passed since Sumgayit State Technical College began to function. On this occasion, the 60th anniversary of the Sumgayit State Technical College was celebrated on September 25 at the Sumgayit State Drama Theater.

Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov, rector of Sumgayit State University Professor Elkhan Huseynov, faculty members, heads of scientific and educational centers, prominent scientists and public figures attended the jubilee event.

First, the delegation visited the park named after the national leader Heydar Aliyev in Sumgayit, laid flowers to the monument and commemorated great leader.

Director of Sumgayit State Technical College, associate professor Matanat Pirguliyeva greeted the guests and thanked them at the anniversary event, which began with the sound of the National Anthem.

Matanat Pirguliyeva spoke about the College's 60 years of development, its history, its successes, and the challenges it faced. She said, “In 1959, Baku Oil-Technological College was moved from Baku to Sumgayit and located in Sumgayit. This was a substantial demand of the time. It was necessary to prepare cadres for great chemical industry of Sumgayit. Thousands of qualified personnel have been trained in this educational institution, which began to function as Sumgayit Chemical Technology College in 1959. This year, celebration of the 70th anniversary of Sumgayit city and the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State Technical College is a sign of great care and attention. On behalf of the staff and myself, I would like to thank President Ilham Aliyev for this attention. As a result of the work done by President Ilham Aliyev, Sumgayit has become even more beautiful, its fame has grown, and a whole new infrastructure has been created in the city. Development of Sumgayit shows that Heydar Aliyev's dreams come true. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, confidently pursuing the strategy of national leader Heydar Aliyev, our country is making new achievements in all areas and expanding the scope of success. For this, on behalf of the collective of College, I express my gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev, Mr. Elkhan Huseynov, rector of Sumgayit State University, and Mr. Zakir Farajov, head of Executive power of Sumgayit.

Congratulating the college staff on the anniversary, Deputy Minister of Education Firudin Gurbanov greeted the participants on behalf of the Minister of Education, Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov, and spoke about the care and attention given to education in the country. He said, “According to the relevant order of the Ministry of Education, Sumgayit State Technical College was attached to Sumgayit State University and renamed into Sumgayit State Technical College. This year, dozens of Sumgait State Technical College graduates entered the country's universities. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the college, I wish the college staff good luck”.

Rector of SSU Professor Elkhan Huseynov said, “60 years have passed since the establishment of Sumgayit State Technical College. This educational institution

played an indispensable role in the development of the chemical and metallurgical industry of Sumgayit. In 1959, the Sumgayit Chemical Technology College was founded. First name of the institution was Sumgayit Technical School of Technology, then Sumgayit Technical School of Chemistry and Technology, but in 1992 it was recalled Sumgayit Technical School of Technology. There are positive changes in the activity of the college, which are driven by the high state care for our science and education, as well as the hard work of the teaching staff”.

Rector congratulated the staff of the college on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State Technical College on behalf of the professor-teacher and student staff of the university and wished them successes and new achievements.

Later, a group of SSTC employees were awarded the advanced badge and Honorary diploma of the Ministry of Education and the Honorary diploma of Sumgayit State University for their effective activity.

The jubilee event continued with a colorful concert program performed by Sumgayit State University’s “Sama” Dance ensemble, students and famous artistic figures of our country.
