HISTORIANS PAID TRIBUTE TO THE VICTIMS OF THE KHOJALY TRAGEDY
A series of events dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy is held at all faculties of Sumgayit State University. On February 24, the staff of the Faculty of History and Geography of SSU honored the memory of the victims of this tragedy.
The event was opened by the dean of the Faculty, Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev. He spoke about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the Khojaly tragedy. The dean noted that throughout the history, Armenian nationalists repeatedly committed atrocities in Azerbaijan, but the Khojaly tragedy, by its cruelty and cynicism, became one of the bloodiest events in the history of mankind in the 20th century. The Khojaly genocide was a continuation of the ethnic cleansing of Azerbaijanis by Armenians. It was noted that only after the return of the Heydar Aliyev to the country's leadership, the Khojaly tragedy was given a political and legal assessment.
The dean expressed confidence that as a result of a wise and consistent policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev, our country will free its occupied lands, and events like the Khojaly genocide will not be repeated in the life of the Azerbaijani people.
The teacher of the Department of Philosophy, sociology and political science Jala Farhadova, spoke in her speech about the work being carried out in the world at the initiative of the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, as part of the campaign “Justice for Khojaly!” in order for the whole world to learn about this tragedy, especially the Islamic world.
Students, who spoke, noted that the Khojaly genocide is one of the bloodiest crimes of the Armenian fascists against the Azerbaijani people.
In conclusion, a video was shown about the Khojaly tragedy.
