WEBINAR ON "BIODIVERSITY IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZING PROBLEMS" WAS ORGANIZED BY THE FACULTY OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY OF SSU
On May 22, the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of Sumgayit State University organized a webinar on "Biodiversity in the context of globalizing problems" dedicated to the International Biodiversity Day.
Opening the event, vice-rector for Science and Innovations of Sumgayit State University, Professor Ramazan Mammadov greeted the guests, noting the invaluable role of the great leader in the history of Azerbaijan, his contribution to the establishment and strengthening of our state, as well as his work to improve the environment. He stressed the importance of the webinar in terms of discussing the problems of the field with the participation of leading researchers from around the world.
Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, Associate Professor Mahal Muradov spoke about the importance of May 22 - International Biodiversity Day. He noted that the decision was announced by the UN General Assembly on December 20, 2000. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to draw the world"s attention to the protection of biodiversity affected by natural and anthropogenic factors. The dean also noted that the International Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted in 1992 in Nairobi, Kenya. The Convention was established to protect the planet"s biological heritage worldwide. In order to expand international cooperation in the field of biodiversity conservation, the Republic of Azerbaijan joined the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in 2000. The dean also noted that President Ilham Aliyev always pays great attention to the protection of the environment and public health. The announcement of 2010 as the "Year of Ecology" in our country at the initiative of the President was mainly due to soil pollution and landscaping in Baku and surrounding areas. More than three million trees have been planted to clean the atmosphere of Baku as part of the "Year of Ecology". A large-scale greening campaign has been launched in our country. The actions and projects implemented by the IDEA-International Environmental Dialogue Campaign, initiated by vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, increase the importance of this campaign. In addition, national programs and state programs on reforestation and afforestation are being implemented.
The following people delivered report in the webinar: head of the Parasitology Department of the Veterinary Research Institute under the Ministry of Agriculture, PhD in biology Aygun Azizova "Protection of biodiversity and epidemic risks in the development of animal husbandry", Professor of the Faculty of Agriculture, Erciyes University, Turkey Dr. Mehmet Ulash Chinar "Biodiversity and its importance in Turkish farm animals", Chairman of the YAP territorial organization of ANAS, Secretary of the Council of Young Scientists and Researchers, Executive Secretary of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS, Leading Researcher of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of ANAS, PhD in biology, Associate Professor Ulduza Gubanova –“The role of photosynthesis in formation of biodiversity in plants”, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and Researchers of the Institute of Animal Physiology, PhD in biology, Associate Professor Zenfira Gadimova "Man at the peak of biodiversity and factors affecting its health", Aysel Aghayeva, senior lecturer of the Department of Biology and its Teaching Methods, SSU, “Conservation of Biodiversity and International Environmental Law”, Yusuf Konca, Professor of Zootechnical Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Erciyes University, Melikgazi-Kayseri, Turkey, "Cattle-breading is the provision and insurance of agriculture." The speakers spoke about the history of biodiversity, the measures taken to protect the environment in our country and in Turkey. They noted that a number of adopted documents on nature protection and efficient use of natural resources, important practical steps taken in the field of nature protection are of great importance in terms of biodiversity conservation.
Speaking about the rich flora, fauna and natural resources of our country, the speakers noted that today a favorable ecological environment has been created in the region as a result of measures taken to protect and restore the rich biodiversity of this region.
Professors from Turkey Mehmet Ulash Chinar, Yasemin Oner, Yusuf Konca noted the importance of such meetings, stressed that this meeting is a beginning for the transformation of inter-university friendship in the future and thanked Aysel Aghayeva for organizing this webinar and establishing contacts with them. Vice-rector for Science and Innovations, Professor Ramazan Mammadov and vice-rector for Humanitarian Affairs, Associate Professor Ramiz Huseynov thanked the speakers, noting that the webinar was held as an international conference and was important for scientists and students of both countries.
