In 2021, the 880th anniversary of the birth of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi will be celebrated. By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, dated January 5, 2021 was declared the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" in our country, taking into account the exceptional importance of the rich master's creative work, which always calls people to moral perfection and instills high spiritual qualities. In this regard, Sumgayit State University has prepared a Plan of events for the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi." In accordance with the Plan of events, scientific conferences, seminars, lectures, round tables were organized to study the rich heritage of Nizami Ganjavi and promote it among students.

As a continuation of the events, an interdepartmental volleyball spartakiad dedicated to the 880th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi was organized by the Student Trade Union Committee and Sports Club at Sumgayit State University on November 22. 8 teams consisting of students of Sumgayit State Technical College under Sumgayit State University and SSU participated in the competition. Each team consists of 12 people.

It should be noted that the Spartakiad will last until November 26.
