On June 30, "Graduation Day" was held at Sumgait State University. Rector of the University, professor-teachers staff took part in the meeting.
First, the participants put flowers to the monument of the great leader, erected in the foyer of the university, to express their respect to his great personality. The event was opened with the national anthem.
Rector of the University, Professor Elkhan Huseynov before his speech said that, the last 17 days were very important and memorable days in Azerbaijan history. He congratulated the architect of independent Azerbaijan"s national leader Heydar Aliyev"s political course successor-President Ilham Aliyev for the successful completion of the first European Games. And professor E. Huseynov also congratulated country"s first lady, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, the chairman of the first European Games Organizing Committee-Mehriban Aliyeva with the rewarding “Heydar Aliyev Order.
The rector said that Sumgait State University today takes place a worthy place among the leading academic institutions for growing competent professionals. Rector stressed that the university created in 1960-1961, Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute began working as a teaching center, in the years 1962-1975 as a branch of the Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute. From 2000 years university began to operate as Sumgait State University. 15 years have passed since that date. He said: ” I congratulate you on this occasion and I believe that the knowledge gained over the years will take worthy place in your life. Students and you are happy that today is the graduation day, you can also celebrate the anniversary of the university”.
Rector Elkhan Huseynov noted that the national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev successfully continued developing of science and education of Modern Azerbaijan. Professor Elkhan Huseynov conveyed his best wishes to the graduates.
Many successful steps have been taken in the short period of time in the university. One of them is the symbol of SSU logo, flag, and today was sounding anthem of SSU.
Head of the Philosophy and Law Department of the University-Professor Hassan Sadykov congratulated the University staff and parents. He wished success to the young students in the future career and education.
In the event also was presented diplomas to the graduates who have distinguished themselves in public life. The event continued with a concert. Illuminated balloons released into the sky.
