On June 24, a conference dedicated to June 26 - Armed Forces Day was held at Sumgayit State University on the topic "Strong and modern Azerbaijani army is the result of Heydar Aliyev"s army  policy."

Professor Ramazan Mammadov, vice-rector for Science and innovation of the university  opened the conference , conveyed the greetings of rector professor Elkhan Huseynov to the participants, and congratulated every soldier of our army and the people of Azerbaijan, especially the Commander-in-Chief  Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on the occasion of June 26 - Armed Forces Day. He wished success in his difficult and honorable work. Talking about the history of the creation of the national army and the glorious path , the vice-rector spoke about the state"s care for army building and the services of the national leader of our people Heydar Aliyev in the army building. He said that a strong army is a guarantee of independence, development and stability. The national leader Heydar Aliyev defined this factor as the main direction of the state policy during the two administrations of our country. In 1971, the Great Leader created a specialized military school named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski and ensured that our young people were educated in this direction. After the restoration of state independence in 1991, a decision was made to establish the Azerbaijan Army. After 1993, important steps were taken in the field of army building in Azerbaijan. Structural and personnel changes in the Armed Forces began, and a regular army under a single command was created. According to the decision of the great leader Heydar Aliyev dated May 22, 1998, June 26 was declared Armed Forces Day.

Professor Ramazan Mammadov also noted that today the National Leader"s army building policy is being successfully continued by our president  Ilham Aliyev. The works carried out in the field of construction of our Armed Forces under his leadership made it possible to create an organized and powerful army in our country and created a solid foundation for further strengthening of our army in the future. The 44-day war showed the strength of Azerbaijan, the bravery of our Armed Forces and the unity of our people. The 44-day war is the glorious history of Azerbaijan.

After that, a video depicting this day of the Azerbaijan National Army was shown and reports were heard according to the program of the conference.

They made reports such as: Bilal Ahmadov, head teacher of the department of Civil Defense, medical and physical training of the faculty of Chemistry and biology, "Army during the Azerbaijan People"s Republic", Sabir Alekbarov, head teacher of the same department, "Role of the Ministry of Defense Industry in the Formation of the Independent Azerbaijan Army", Samir Karimli, associate professor of the Department of History and its Teaching Methodology "The role of the military school named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski, created by Heydar Aliyev, in the development of the national army", Sara Alizade, a 5th-year student of the faculty of History and geography  on "The existence of today"s strong army is the result of Ilham Aliyev"s policy".

They said that the great victory won by the people, state and soldiers of Azerbaijan is the result of many years of reforms in the direction of building the army.
