As we know, June 26 is the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. On this occasion, a seminar on "I choose my future" was organized at Sumgayit State University on June 30.

The seminar was held in order to implement the "2019‒2024 State Program on the fight against drug addiction and illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors" approved by the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated July 22, 2019.

The event was opened by the university's vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations  associate professor Elmar Khalilov, who gave detailed information about drug addiction, its consequences and the measures to combat it in our country. He said that the fight against the consequences caused by drug addiction is particularly important  today, drug addiction  which is one of the most painful problems of humanity, a serious problem of society, a source of danger for the people and the nation is equally dangerous for everyone, regardless of religion, language, race, and social status. It breeds crime, violence and corruption, it promotes the rapid increase of AIDS and slows down socio-economic development and tears apart families and communities. June 26 is marked by the UN as the Day of Combating Drug Addiction and Illegal Trafficking in order to constantly focus the public's attention on the problems related to drug addiction. In this direction, various educational events are carried out in our country.

Then,  Tahir Khalilov head of the department of Civil Defense, medical and physical training, Gulnara Alakbarli  senior lecturer  of the department spoke about the purpose and importance of the event. The participants were given extensive information about the risk factors of  using drug , the stages of drug addiction formation, the properties of psychoactive substances and their harmful effects on health, the importance of anti-narcotic propaganda, and methods of combating drug addiction.

Elmin Novruzlu, a third-year student of the faculty of History and geography, and other students noted that holding such events is of great importance in the direction of educating young people and stated that thanks to detailed information about the harms of drugs, young people will be able to make the right choice in their lives. Because today's choices of young people will determine their future life. Drug addiction means a life without a future.

At the seminar, a video clip was shown on the destructive effect of drugs on the human body, it causes  the social problems, the necessity of early treatment, as well as the harm of drug addiction to society and people's health.
