In order to ensure the implementation of the Action Plan, a series of events dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide will be held from February 21 in all faculties of Sumgayit State University.
The Khojaly genocide stands out among the bloody crimes and massacres committed as a result of Armenia"s territorial claims against Azerbaijan, the ethnic cleansing policy of Armenian usurpers against our people, and the massacres. During the Khojaly genocide  left a deep mark in the world history as a mass killing of civilians, which is on the same level as the tragedies such as Khatyn, Lidis, Songmi, and Rwanda, the city with more than 7,000 inhabitants was razed to the ground in one night, innocent people as they were Azerbaijani  not to mention women, children and the elderly  were killed. For 31 years, our people have been carrying the spiritual pain and unimaginable horrors of this bloody crime in their hearts and lives. The horrors of the brutality and crime committed by the Armenian aggressors on that bloody night will never be erased from the memory of our people. Because what happened in Khojaly is not only a genocide against the people of Azerbaijan, but a bloody crime against humanity. Peace-loving people of the world, civilized states, influential international organizations, and the international community should know this painful truth  and this crime committed against humanity should receive its legal value. We should say  that the Azerbaijani authorities at that time did not do anything to give a political assessment to this terrible event, to convey objective information about the bloody massacre to the world community. However, after the return to power of the national leader Heydar Aliyev - the savior of the Azerbaijani people, this bloody tragedy was evaluated at the political and legal level for the first time. In 1994, on the initiative of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, the Parliament of Azerbaijan adopted February 26 as the "Khojaly Genocide" day. Every year, the anniversary of this terrible tragedy is marked  by our countrymen and representatives of friendly nations living in different countries of the world.
The  events held at the faculties of SSU with the participation of teachers and students, the dear memory of our compatriots who were killed during the Khojaly genocide, as well as the sons of the Motherland who died for the freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan  is commemorated with a minute of silence, and documentaries dedicated to the terrible genocide are shown. Exhibitions  of photos and books depicting the tragedy are viewed, and literary and artistic compositions dedicated to the Khojaly genocide performed by students. Faculty deans and speakers talked about the horrors of the Khojaly tragedy, which was written as a black page in the history of the Azerbaijani people, and importance of the Khojaly genocide in our national memory. They  noted that the sadness caused by this tragedy is one of the leading factors in the formation of the national identity and unity of Azerbaijan, and this was the 44-day Motherland. They talked about the historical role of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in promoting the Khojaly genocide in the world this work is being carried out very successfully by the state of Azerbaijan and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
