On April 20, Sumgayit State University held another event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev called "Heydar Aliyev and the Azerbaijani model of foreign policy".

A group of foreign and local students took part in the event along with professors and teachers of SSU.

First, the dear memory of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was commemorated with a minute"s silence.

Opening the event, vice rector for Social affairs and public relations of the university, associate professor Elmar Khalilov, greeted the participants and spoke about the importance of the event.

The vice-rector spoke about the multifaceted activities of Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, his unparalleled historical services in the direction of the development of Azerbaijan, the protection of our independence and the strengthening of our national statehood, and his great rescue mission. He stated that the political-ideological activity of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of modern Azerbaijan statehood, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, was not limited to Azerbaijan, but covered the entire Turkic world.

Vice-rector Elmar Khalilov emphasized that the foundation of the people-power unity, which was the basis of our glorious victory in the Patriotic war, was laid precisely during the reign of the Great Leader.Our president Ilham Aliyev, who honorably fulfilled his father"s will, we won the brilliant victory in the 44-day Patriotic war.

Then vice-rector for International relations, associate professor Gafar Atayev made a wide report on "Heydar Aliyev and the Azerbaijani model of foreign policy". The vice-rector spoke about the life and political activities of Heydar Aliyev, he defined all the main directions of the country"s foreign policy based on his recommendations and assignments.

Vice-rector Gafar Atayev also emphasized that Turkish-Azerbaijani brotherhood and unity is the main direction for our peoples. Azerbaijan and Turkey always support each other. Azerbaijan and Turkey are always by each other"s side, both in good and in difficult times.Turkey closely supports our country in the multifaceted construction works carried out in our ancient lands, which are freed from occupation today. Along with President Ilham Aliyev, the President of the fraternal country, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, also participates in the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects, groundbreaking and opening ceremonies. These historical events will never be erased from the memory of the Azerbaijani people.

Then a video about the life and activities of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was shown.

Later, Dilshah Can, a first-year student of the faculty of Philology of the University, a citizen of Turkey, spoke on the topic "Heydar Aliyev and the Turkic world", Maria Manzoor, a student of the preparatory group, a citizen of Pakistan, spoke on the topic "Heydar Aliyev"s place in world politics".

They noted that the people of Azerbaijan are happy that they have a Great Leader like Heydar Aliyev. By continuing the political course of the Great Leader, under the leadership of the honorable President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people will continue to write new, glorious pages of their history.
