Sumgait state university opened its doors to students the next time. On September in SSU Knowledge day was celebrated solemnly.

First, the professors and teachers laid flowers in front of the bust of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in the lobby of the university and paid tribute to his memory. The dear memory of our martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of our homeland was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Rector of the university Rufat Azizov opened the event, which began with the singing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and congratulated professors, teachers, students, especially first-year students and their parents on the occasion of the start of the 2023-2024 academic year , spoke about attention and care given to education by the state, the upcoming missions and the work done in preparation for the academic year at the higher school.

Emphasizing that this year's Knowledge Day coincides with a significant date, the 100th anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the rector said that our national statehood policy established by National Leader H eydar Aliyev's success is currently being continued successfully by President Mr. Ilham Aliyev, as in all areas of social life, in the field of higher education also brought to attention that significant successes have been achieved and that high state care has been shown to the development of higher education.

He said that important decisions were made by the head of state in the field of increasing the accessibility of higher education, improving the social protection of students, training highly qualified and professional personnel in the country, and forming a competitive environment in higher education.

As a result of this, our young people make a great contribution to the overall development of our country by working very successfully in various fields.

The mission of higher education institutions is not only to train professional personnel, but also to train citizens worthy of their state and nation literally. In this direction, Sumgayit State University has always fulfilled its duties properly since its establishment, and has successfully carried out the work of training academic and pedagogical staff for a number of other countries as well as our republic.

Over the years, Sumgayit State University has become a prestigious academic and educational center of the country and the region, thanks to the historical services of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the attention , care of his political successor, President Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

Rufat Azizov, noting that he was appointed rector by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated September 13, 2023, expressed his gratitude to the head of state for the high trust shown, and said that he will spare no effort for the successful implementation of the tasks ahead.

Giving information about the goals of the university, the rector emphasized the high level of academic research in various directions, determining the content of education in accordance with modern requirements, advised students to be demanding and proactive. Then, student cards and memorial gifts were presented to the first-year students who scored high marks in the entrance exams.

The song "You are such a peak" dedicated to the Great Leader was performed by Humay Babazade, a teacher of the Baku Choreography Academy.

At the event, Rahil Khalilov veteran, a participant in the 2nd Patriotic War, second-year student of the Faculty of Mathematics, Gulnara Zulfaliyeva, a teacher of the Department of Differential Equations and Optimization, and Shukur Aliyev, a graduate of the 2021/2022 academic year of SSU and currently an employee of the Department of Economics, spoke about the state's care for young people spoke and wished the students success. In her speech, Arzu Aghayeva, a student who was admitted to the 1st year of the Mathematics Faculty of SSU in the 2023-2024 academic year, said that she was glad to enter Sumgayit State University, the only higher education institution of our city.
