On December 9, a fencing competition was held among students within the framework of the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev at Sumgayit State University.

Before the competition, the vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations of the university, associate professor Elmar Khalilov, spoke about the measures implemented by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in order to increase the popularity of sports in the country. He said that our state has been one of the countries with ancient sports traditions and mobilized all its forces for the development of sports over time. Historically, various types of sports have developed in our country. Today, in our country, large-scale measures are being implemented in the field of development and increasing the popularity of this type of sport. In this direction, chess, football, badminton, table tennis, shooting, fencing, etc. are taught at Sumgayit State University. The purpose of holding such a competition is to identify talented students in fencing.

At the end of his speech, the vice-rector wished success to the participants.

Then, sabre-type competitions were started with the participation of students.

According to the results of the competition, the 1st place to Ismailova Sehran, a student of group 952, the 2nd place to Ismayilli Elnara, a student of group 951, the 3rd place to a student of group 934, Majnunlu Mukafat, and a student of group 953, Mammadova Gumru were awarded.
