Memorial Day events dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the start of the 2020 Patriotic War were held, organized by the faculties of Sumgait State University and the Student Trade Union Committee. First, the dear memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence, and the National Anthem was played. A photo exhibition was viewed on the occasion of Memorial Day. In their opening speeches, the deans of the faculties drew attention to the exceptional role of the 44-day Patriotic War in the history of Azerbaijan. It was noted that on September 27, 2020, in response to the next military provocations committed by the armenian armed forces, the counter-offensive operations launched under the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, resulted in a historic Victory in a short time. With this Victory, the lands that had been under occupation for many years were liberated, and the territorial integrity of our country was fully restored. The speeches emphasized that this magnificent victory was achieved thanks to the unity of our people, the heroism of our army and the principled position of the political leadership. The historical success achieved by our victorious Army is a bright manifestation of the national statehood strategy defined by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. The unparalleled services of martyrs and veterans in the establishment of today"s independent, sovereign and integral Azerbaijan were specially noted, and God"s mercy was wished to the martyrs and healing to the veterans. Other speakers spoke about the historical and spiritual significance of Remembrance Day, stating that September 27 is not only a day of mourning, but also a day of heroism, national pride, and revival. The example of courage, unity, and patriotism shown by our people for the sake of the Motherland is valued as a true example for future generations. In the end, students recited patriotic poems and showed a video dedicated to the heroism of our martyrs. Also, the university"s student and teaching staff visited the Martyrs" Alley in Sumgayit, laid wreaths and flowers in front of the Martyrs" tombs, and commemorated their dear memories with great respect.
