A seminar dedicated to the Day of Restoration of State Independence held at Sumgayit State University
On October 17, a seminar was organized at Sumgayit State University (SSU) on the occasion of October 18 - the Day of Restoration of State Independence.
Acting rector of the university, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Aminaga Sadigov declared the event open, greeted the participants and congratulated them on the occasion of the Restoration of Independence Day. Professor Aminaga Sadigov said in his speech that the adoption of the "Constitutional Act on the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan" on October 18, 1991 was the realization of the ideals of freedom, sovereignty, and national statehood that our people had long desired. He emphasized that independence was not achieved easily - Azerbaijan was able to preserve its statehood by going through serious political, economic, and social trials at the end of the 20th century. As a result of the far-sighted and wise policy of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, our country has become an independent, stable and strong state. Aminaga Sadigov noted that today, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has further strengthened its independence and is recognized internationally as an influential and strong state. The historic Victory in the 44-day Patriotic War has once again proven the unshakable integrity of our independence, the unity of our people, and the national will. He also said that freedom and sovereignty are not only historical events, but also the main pillars that shape the identity of our people and the idea of statehood. In conclusion, Professor Aminaga Sadigov emphasized that today, Azerbaijani intellectuals and youth face a high and responsible mission - to protect state independence and further strengthen it through science, knowledge, technology and culture. “Independence is the responsibility of every citizen. It is the duty of each of us to preserve it and pass it on to future generations" he concluded his speech. At the seminar, the director of the Educational and Methodological Center, Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, Elnara Mammadova spoke on the topic "Economic development of Azerbaijan during the period of independence". Then, the head of the Department of History, Geography and Methodology, Associate Professor Sona Maharramova, delivered reports on the topics of "The historical path leading to the state independence of Azerbaijan and the restoration of our independence", a teacher of the Department of History of Azerbaijan and the Peoples of Eastern Europe, Samira Karimova "Heydar Aliyev's return to power and strengthening the state independence of Azerbaijan", and Nubar Osmanova, a second-year master's student of the Faculty of History and Geography, "State Youth Policy during the period of independence". The speeches emphasized that independence is a supreme concept that embodies the spiritual values, national will, and historical heritage of every nation. Its protection, strengthening of statehood traditions and its transmission to the younger generation are among the main tasks of Azerbaijani youth. The seminar continued with extensive exchange of ideas and discussions around the topic.
