A scientific-practical event held on the topic of "Gender equality and social justice: historical and contemporary perspectives"
On November 12, a scientific and practical event was held on the topic “Gender equality and social justice: historical and modern view” at the Faculty of History and Geography of Sumgayit State University. The event was organized by the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European Peoples. First, the participants of the event observed a minute of silence in memory of the heroic martyrs who gave their lives for the Motherland. The Dean of the Faculty of History and Geography, Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev opened the event and greeted the participants and spoke about the purpose and importance of the event. He noted that gender equality is an indicator not only of social rights and opportunities, but also of the development of society and democracy. He emphasized that Azerbaijan has identified increasing the role of women in education, labor and management as a priority direction, and that achievements in this area are highly appreciated at the international level. Then, the Head of the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European Peoples, Professor Shirkhan Salimov made a report on “Historical stages of development of gender equality and the formation of principles of social justice”. In his speech, the professor spoke about the historical development of gender equality and noted that women's participation in socio-economic life has been increasing since ancient times. He emphasized that modern gender policy should be based on the principles of equality, justice and social responsibility, and real equality is impossible without social justice. Therefore, equal participation of women and men in education, labor and decision-making is a key priority of state policy. At the event, students: Aydin Gasimov spoke on the topic of "The role of women in socio-political life in the history of Azerbaijan: from the past to the present", Khadija Maharramova spoke on the topic of "Gender equality and social justice in modern society: problems and prospects".
