On November 25, a republican scientific conference was held on the topic of “The economic sustainability of Sumgayit industrial enterprises: current situation and challenges” at Sumgayit State University (SSU). At the conference, as well as the representatives of “SOCAR Polymer”, “Azertexnolayn” LLC and Steel pipe factory, other industrial enterprises, researchers, teaching staff and students of the university attended. The conference has begun with honoring the memory of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the heroes who died for the independence and sovereignty of our homeland and with the singing of the National Anthem. Vice-rector for Science and Innovations of the university, associate professor Elshad Abdullayev opened the conference with an introductory speech. He welcomed the participants and emphasized that the conference organized by SSU is of great significance in order to expanding the cooperation between industrial enterprises with the universities scientifically and practically. He provided information about the role and contributions Sumgayit, as one of the main industrial centers plays an important role in the development of the Azerbaijani economy. He noted that the analyzing of current economic potential of Sumgayit, searching for innovative solutions and expanding the scientific-research are of great importance. In this regard, one of the main goals is to improve the cooperation between the industry and the university. E.Abdullayev stated that the conference plays a necessary platform for the cooperation between the higher education institutions and industry, and emphasized that the issues discussed at the event will contribute to the development of the industrial sustainability of the country. In the plenary session, the Dean of the Economy and Management Faculty of SSU, associate professor Logman Abdullayev on the topic of “Development perspectives of industry clusters of Sumgayit: investment, analytical assessment of employment and exports”, associate professor of Accounting and Economy Department, Aynure Yehyayeva on the topic of “Green finance mechanisms and eco-innovation strategies in increasing the economic sustainability of Sumgayit industrial enterprises” made their researches and put forward their relevant proposals. They noted that increasing competitiveness, modernizing of the producing processes and aligning them with international standards are one of the main issues facing the industrial sector today. In this regard, determination of new priorities of the industry-university cooperation and strengthening this cooperation with efficient mechanisms are of great importance. Then, a panel discussion was organized with the participation of representatives from the industrial enterprises and specialists of SSU. Speakers – Director of Finance of the “SOCAR Polymer” company, Mushfig Hajiyev, professor of the Business Management Department of SSU, Shefa Aliyev, Head of the Production Department of “Azertexnolayn” LLC, Ali Huseynov, Head of the pipe processing department of the steel pipe plant, Emin Pashayev provided information about the activities, development strategies and future goals of the enterprises they represent. After the speeches, they answered the participants’ questions.
