On December 2, a scientific seminar dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of academician Yusif Mammadaliyev was held at Sumgayit State University (SSU) organized by the Student Scientific Societies (SSCs) of partner universities.
The event began with a minute of silence in memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and our heroes who died for the freedom of our country and the playing of the National Anthem. The seminar was moderated by the Chairwoman of the SSU SSC, Nubar Rahimova. The event was opened by SSU Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, Associate Professor Elshad Abdullayev who welcomed the participants. The Vice-Rector said that the initiative for the seminar came from Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), and currently members of Student Scientific Societies from Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC) and other higher education institutions have gathered at SSU. The main purpose of such seminars is to expand scientific relations between students, promote the exchange of experience and knowledge. In his speech, Elshad Abdullayev emphasized the great industrial and economic potential of Sumgayit and said that organizing such scientific seminars at SSU, the only higher education institution in Sumgayit, which has passed a 76-year development path and is the second largest industrial center of our country, is extremely important. For this reason, the seminar was dedicated to the topic of “Modern approaches in oil and gas processing”. The vice-rector also provided information about the university’s educational activities, faculties, specialties and successes achieved in international rankings in recent years. He said that today more than 6,500 students study at SSU and the university, as a broad-profile higher education institution, trains teachers, researchers, economists and engineers.
Then the scientific seminar continued with panel discussions. The speakers were: Head of the Chemistry Department of SSU, Musa Mustafayev, Field Chief of bp Azerbaijan, Nasimi Mammadov, and Supervisor for Oil and Gas Production of SOCAR, Sabirkhan Mahmudov. The speakers spoke about the exceptional role of the scientific heritage of academician Yusif Mammadaliyev in the development of chemical science in Azerbaijan, his multifaceted activities, the stages of development of the oil and gas industry in our country, environmental issues, as well as the process of transition to green energy in the world. They also provided information about the current directions of activity of SOCAR and bp companies, the application of new technologies and future goals. At the end of the seminar, the participants got acquainted with the Energy Polygon of SSU.
