An educational event held on the topic of “Fight against Human Trafficking” at Sumgayit State University

On December 16, an educational event was held on the topic of “Fight against Human Trafficking” at Sumgayit State University, organized by the Center for Assistance to Victims of Human Trafficking of the Social Services Agency.
The main goal of the event was to inform young people about the measures taken by state agencies in the fight against human trafficking, and at the same time to contribute to the formation of their active and responsible position in this direction.
Vice-rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations of the University, Associate Professor Elmar Khalilov opened the event with an introductory speech and emphasized that human trafficking is one of the most serious global problems of the modern era. He provided information about the law "On Fight against Human Trafficking" adopted in 2005, stating that the law in question envisages the protection of victims of human trafficking, the provision of professional social and psychological assistance to them, as well as the fight against crime in this area. The vice-rector urged students to be more informed about such issues. Then the director of the Center for Assistance to Victims of Human Trafficking, Habiba Geribova gave a speech and provided detailed information about the Center's areas of activity and the rehabilitation and habilitation services provided to victims of human trafficking. She informed the participants about the shelters operating in our country, the psychological intervention mechanisms applied in those institutions, the results achieved, and existing success stories. Psychologist at the Social Services Agency, Fatima Abushova made a speech at the event, touched on the essence of the concept of human trafficking, its various forms, and the serious threats it poses to modern society. She noted that awareness-raising is of great importance in this area, saying that every year thousands of people around the world, mainly women and children, are exploited for various purposes and become victims of human trafficking. The psychologist advised young people to be careful and informed in order to protect themselves from such situations. During the interactive event, students' questions on the topic were answered and mutual exchange of views took place.
