On January 7, a seminar-meeting was held on the regulation of the activities of the Institute of Polymer Materials (IPM) under Sumgayit State University (SSU). Acting rector of Sumgayit State University, corresponding member of ANAS Aminaga Sadigov opened the event with an introductory speech, greeted the participants, congratulated them on the New Year, and wished them new successes in their scientific activities. He recalled the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 545 dated April 4, 2025 "On additional measures to optimize the activities of scientific institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and increase their efficiency" and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 292 dated October 7, 2025 "On optimizing the activities of scientific institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan", and stated that the seminar-meeting was dedicated to discussing issues related to the implementation of these two important documents. Then he spoke about the interview given by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to local television channels on January 5, and noted that in this interview the head of state expressed important ideas regarding the reforms carried out in the field of science and education. Following this, Director of the SSU Teaching Methodological Center, Associate Professor Elnara Mammadova highlighted the main theses expressed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with local television channels regarding the field of science and education. Aminaga Sadigov noted that the transfer of the Institute of Polymer Materials to the SSU will strengthen the integration of science and education at the university, contribute to the practical application of scientific results, and improve the quality of personnel training. In his speech, A. Sadigov emphasized the importance of loyalty and continuity in scientific activity, and especially noted the dedication of scientists who have been working in this field for years. He also noted the symbolic significance of the event coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Bakhtiyar Mammadov, Director General of the Institute of Physics and Technology, Corresponding Member of ANAS, highly appreciated his significant contributions to Azerbaijani science, and presented Bakhtiyar Mammadov with the Honorary Order of Sumgayit State University. Then, the Director General of the Institute of Polymers Bakhtiyar Mammadov made a speech and provided information about the history of the institute"s establishment, stages of scientific development, scientific indicators and personnel potential. He said that the institute conducts important scientific work in the areas of synthesis of polymer and monomer-based materials, mechanical-chemical modification, obtaining high-quality polymer composites and nanocomposites, their processing and research. It was noted that these studies create an opportunity to prepare application-oriented, competitive materials for industry. At the event, SSU Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, Associate Professor Elshad Abdullayev spoke about the main goals for the development of scientific research in higher education institutions and emphasized the strategic importance of university-scientific research institute cooperation. At the seminar-meeting, leading scientists of the PMI also presented reports on the production of polymer composites and nanocomposites, antibacterial macromonomer-based polymer materials, highly branched polymer structures, as well as the institute"s patent activity and innovation indicators over the past decade. The event continued in an atmosphere of mutual scientific discussions, and an exchange of views was held on future directions of activity and the implementation of joint scientific projects.
