On February 25, an educational event on organ donation and transplantation was organized for students at Sumgayit State University. The meeting was held at the initiative of the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation operating under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the main goal was to provide correct information in this area among young people. The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations, Associate Professor Elmar Khalilov opened the event and greeted the participants and guests on behalf of Acting-Rector of the university, Corresponding Member of ANAS Aminaga Sadigov. He emphasized the importance of the meeting and the relevance of the topic. He noted that organ donation is one of the humane steps that plays an important role in saving human lives. Informing students from an early age can have a positive impact on increasing the number of voluntary donors in the future.

Then, the Chairperson of the Board of the Coordination Center, Yegana Abbasova made a speech and provided information on the medical and legal foundations of organ donation, the reforms carried out in the field of transplantation in our country, and the work done to improve the regulatory and legal framework. She noted that currently, transplantation operations are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the legislation and at the expense of the state, which is the main factor increasing the accessibility of services. At the event, doctor-coordinator of the Center, Mehriban Aliyeva also made a presentation and spoke about the relevance of organ donation in Azerbaijan. She explained the concept of brain death, the stages of the transplantation process, the conditions and procedures required to become a donor. She noted that a correct and timely decision, as well as a professionally organized transplantation process, allows saving the lives of many people.

At the end, an interactive discussion was held with the participants, and the questions of interest to them were answered.
