The 34th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy commemorated in the faculties
At the initiative of the Student Trade Union and Student Youth Organizations of Sumgayit State University, a series of events dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy were held at the faculties. First, the souls of the innocent people who lost their lives in the Khojaly tragedy and all the heroes who died for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan were commemorated with a minute of silence. Then, a video clip dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy was shown. The speakers emphasized that the Khojaly tragedy was a grave international crime committed against the civilian population and stated that this event showed the essence of Armenian nationalists to the world community. It was noted that the truth about the Khojaly tragedy was communicated to the world community only after the return of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev to political power in 1993. Later, as a result of the principled and consistent foreign policy of President Ilham Aliyev, important documents on Armenia's aggressive policy were adopted at the international level, and significant steps were taken to promote the Khojaly tragedy. The international campaign “Justice for Khojaly”, launched in 2008 on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, played an important role in bringing these truths to the world. For three years now, the anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy has been celebrated in a different historical context. With the liberation of the city of Khojaly from occupation, historical justice has been restored. The Azerbaijani flag flying in liberated Khojaly today is a symbol of the highest respect shown to the memory of the victims of the tragedy. Currently, large-scale restoration and construction work is being carried out in the territories liberated from occupation, and the Great Return process is successfully continuing. The speakers also spoke about the visits of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva to Khojaly, their meetings with the villagers, and the decree signed by the head of state on the establishment of the Khojaly Genocide Memorial Complex. The martyrs who gave their lives for the homeland will never be forgotten, and their heroism will live on as an example of patriotism and self-sacrifice for future generations. Students also delivered reports, stating that the Khojaly tragedy left an indelible mark on the memory of our people, characterizing this event as a cruel crime against humanity.
