On March 11, a scientific-practical seminar on the topic “Geographical Factors of Urban Planning” dedicated to the “Year of Architecture and Urban Planning” was held by the Department of History, Geography and Methodology of Sumgayit State University. Dean of the Faculty of History and Geography, Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev opened the seminar and spoke about the importance of declaring 2026 the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” in the Republic of Azerbaijan. He noted that events are being held in all regions of the republic and relevant institutions in this regard. In this direction, a series of events are also being organized at Sumgayit State University in accordance with the Action Plan of the Ministry of Science and Education. These events are also continuing at the faculty. During his speech, the professor emphasized that the declaration of 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” is not accidental. The urban planning and architectural heritage of Azerbaijan has ancient historical roots. Today, extensive construction and improvement works are being carried out rapidly in the liberated territories. Such measures are of particular importance in terms of modern urban planning principles. Everyone should actively participate in the socio-economic development of those territories and the formation of a modern urban environment. Then, senior lecturer of the Department of History, Geography and Methodology, Doctor of Philosophy in Geography,Masud Almammedli delivered a speech on the topic “The influence of relief and climatic factors on urban planning”, a lecturer of the same department, Narmin Ahmadova, “Landscape planning of urban planning”, and a fourth-year student of the faculty, Ellada Zargarova delivered a speech on the topic “The role of geographical location in urban planning”. The speakers stated that relief and climate act as important natural factors in the urban planning process, and landscape planning directly affects the principles of location of settlements, architectural solutions, as well as the development of transport and other infrastructure. Then, head of the Department of History, Geography and Methodology, associate professor, Sona Maharramova made a speech, highly appreciated the reports listened to and shared her views on various aspects of urban planning. She emphasized the relevance and scientific and practical importance of the topic.
