On April 2, a memorial meeting dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the April battles of 2016 was organized at Sumgayit State University (SSU). The event was jointly organized by Sumgayit State University and the head of the “Fatherland Devotees” project, Manya Sakhavatgizi. The event began with laying flowers at the Martyrs Monument located in front of the university. Then, as part of the opening ceremony, the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the Motherland was commemorated with a minute of silence and the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played. Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations, Associate Professor Elmar Khalilov spoke about the importance of the military operations that took place in April 2016. He emphasized that the power of the Azerbaijani army, the unshakable unity of the people and the high spirit of patriotism were demonstrated to the whole world. It was noted that the April victory was possible thanks to the successful domestic and foreign policy of, the leadership skills of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev and the professionalism of our Armed Forces. As a result of successful military operations, a number of strategically important territories - the heights around the village of Talish in the Tartar region, important positions in the Sugovushan direction, the Leletepe height and the village of Jojug Marjanli in the Jabrayil region, as well as the village of Gulustan in the Goranboy region - were liberated from occupation, and the results achieved laid the foundation for future victories for Azerbaijan. Head of the "Fatherland Devotees" project, Manya Sakhavatgizi provided detailed information on the activities carried out within the project, the attention paid to the families of the martyrs, the social projects implemented, and the books published. She emphasized that keeping the memory of the martyrs alive is the sacred duty of every citizen and drew attention to the importance of expanding the project and the active participation of the public in this regard. Manya Sakhavatgizi also noted that the activities organized with young people within the project, such as trainings, round tables and preparation of memorial books, support the morale of the martyrs' families and play an important role in preserving national memory. The video dedicated to the martyrs as part of the event fully reflects the courage, bravery and sacrifices of the heroes who gave their lives for the Motherland. Mother of SSU graduate martyr Mikayil Vahabzade, Rumiyya Vahabzade spoke about her son's heroic path in her speech. Wife of martyr Shahmar Guliyev, Gulnara Guliyeva shared her memories of the hero in her speech. Later, in the artistic part of the event, students Aydan Mammadova and Ibrahim Almammedli recited poems dedicated to the martyrs by Manya Sakhavatgizi. At the end of the event, Manya Sakhavatgizi donated her works dedicated to our martyrs to the university library.
