On May 5, final stage of Republican Olympiad in informatics among university students was held at Institute of Information Technologies of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). Organizers of the event which has been held regularly since 2007 are the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Ministry of Education and Institute of Information Technologies.
The purpose of the Olympiad, which was dedicated to May 17 - World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, is raising the level of knowledge of students of higher educational institutions in the field of computer science, programming, their growing interest in this area, as well as involvement of winners in the international competitions. 
Academician-secretary of ANAS, director of Institute of Information Technologies Rasim Aliquliyev greeted the participants of Olympiad on behalf of chairman of Academy academician Akif Alizade and his collective. He notified that the Olympiad coincided with 95th anniversary of Great leader Heydar Aliyev and 100th anniversary of establishment of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. R. Aliquliyev pointed out that over the past 10 years, 40-50 teams (160-200 participants) from 10-15 universities have joined the first stage every year. This year, 62 teams from 25 universities across the country have won the right to participate in the competition.
The team of Faculty of Mathematic of Sumgayit State University was qualified to the final stage among 14 chosen teams. 
The winners will be awarded with presents, Honorary diplomas and honors in the event dedicated to World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.
