Science and education play an important role in improvement of independent Azerbaijan Republic. Development of education as a priority area is an indicator of care and attention of the state to this field. Therefore universities, as well as Sumgayit State University contribute to this development. Nowadays SSU is among prestigious universities. The University places great importance in preparing professional staff for the country. Scientific-research laboratories began their work at the University, structural changes were realized, smart boards were installed and international relations are expanding. Effective use of innovative teaching methods and technologies is the most significant factor in renovation and quality increase of education content. Integration into international education arena causes modernization of education system of the University. In this regard SSU is interested in exchange of experience and realizes it. Sumgayit State University successfully fulfils tasks of Bologna education process joined by most of European countries.
Being one of the reputable universities of the region and the Republic, Sumgayit State University is known not only for its material-technical base and specialists, but also for perfect cadre potential. The care and attitude of the President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev to the improvement of science and education, as well his political course in direction of “Transferring petroleum capital to human capital” are successfully conducted by the rector of Sumgayit State University Professor Elkhan Huseynov.
It should be noted that 7 faculties (Mathematics, Physics and Electroenergetics, Engineering, Chemistry and Biology, History and Geography, Economics and Management, Philology); 29 departments, 6 scientific-research laboratories, Teaching Methodical Centre, Doctorate and Master Programs Office, Scientific Section, International Students Office and other bodies are functioning at SSU. Specialist preparation is conducted on the program of doctor of sciences for the first time in the history of SSU. 14 people were admitted to this program in 2017 and 2018. Dissertation board was instituted on specialty of 3337.01 – Information measurement and management systems (on fields) and 3303.01 – Chemical technology and engineering.
Enrollment of admitted students to Sumgayit State University for 2018/2019 academic year has already begun. Admission process of State Exam Centre of the 2018/2019 academic year for the higher educational institutions has been completed and placement for higher education institutions has been announced. Document Admission Commission (DAC) has been established in the University. The list of documents required for admission posted on the website of SSU in advance. Also, the deans of 7 faculties of the university as well as deputy deans and staff are actively involved in the registration of students. For further information we should note that, at present all three corpuses of the university are being renovated and constructed. This in its turn provides growth of the quality of education.
