SHUSHA DECLARATION
There are very significant days in the history of every nation. There are such days in the history of the Azerbaijani people. We experienced the last such significant day on November 8, 2020. With the determination of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the bravery of our army, we won a brilliant victory in the 44-day Patriotic War. Going back a little earlier, we no doubt remember June 15, 1993. That day is engraved in our history as the Day of Salvation as one of the most significant days. The second return of the great leader Heydar Aliyev to power in Azerbaijan saved our country from great troubles - disintegration and destruction. The foundation of the great success of our Azerbaijan was laid on this date by the great leader Heydar Aliyev. With the will and determination of the worthy successor of the political course of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, President Ilham Aliyev, June 15 was written in golden letters in the history of Azerbaijan for the second time. It was on June 15, 2021 that the two fraternal states - Turkey and Azerbaijan, the two brotherly presidents - Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilham Aliyev - signed the Shusha Declaration on Allied Relations in Shusha. This date was also significant because it coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Kars, signed on October 13, 1921.
For the first time in the history of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan, the President of the country welcomed the head of a foreign state in Karabakh. The signing of the Declaration on Allied Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey in Shusha, which was declared our cultural capital by President Ilham Aliyev, was undoubtedly engraved in our memory as an important historical event to be written in future textbooks. This historic declaration reflects many important issues. At the international level, joint cooperation, our activities, political relations, economic and trade relations, culture, education, sports, youth policy cover almost all areas.
The Shusha Declaration signed by President Ilham Aliyev and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a historical fact that the whole world must reconcile. The agreement, aimed at combining opportunities to protect the common interests of both countries, as well as coordinating their activities on regional and international strategic issues of common interest, is the beginning of a new regional geopolitical configuration led by Baku and Ankara. This marks the end of nearly 200 years of geopolitical configurations in the region and the beginning of a new regional order that will continue under the leadership of the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem.
The Shusha Declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey is a revolutionary reality in relations between the two countries. Starting from June 15, 2021, Baku and Ankara have officially announced their military-political and economic alliances. One of the most important points in the declaration is military cooperation and alliance. It states that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the two states will protect each other in the event of a threat or aggression by a third state or states. The two brotherly countries also make joint efforts to reshape and modernize the armed forces of the two countries in accordance with modern requirements, implement measures aimed at strengthening defense capabilities and military security, increase the joint capacity of the two countries' armed forces, modern weapons and ammunition management. Another important point in the agreement is related to economic and transport issues. The naming of the historic Turkish land of the Zangazur Corridor in the Declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Turkey is an important factor in showing the historical reality and goals. The declaration calls for increasing efforts to diversify national economies and exports, take necessary measures to establish mechanisms for organizing the free movement of goods, continue coordinated efforts for the efficient use and further development of the Southern Gas Corridor, international transport corridors using intelligent transport systems. Further development of transit-transport potential in the Turkish part, opening of the Zangazur corridor connecting Azerbaijan and Turkey, restoration of transport and communication relations in the region, promotion of the development of international transport corridors are topical issues.
Speaking about the Shusha Declaration, the list of areas to be emphasized includes information policy and lobbying issues that are currently relevant. The declaration includes provisions to further strengthen cooperation between the relevant agencies of the two countries in the field of information, communication and public diplomacy within the capabilities of the Azerbaijan-Turkey Media Platform and to develop closer cooperation between the Azerbaijani and Turkish diasporas.
This is not just the Shusha Declaration, but the Shusha Alliance Declaration in the true sense of the word. On June 15, 2021, the two brotherly states took a historic step and signed a Declaration that will change the geopolitical landscape of the region. This Declaration is also a message to the enemies of Azerbaijan and Turkey. The Shusha Declaration of Alliance will be a solid foundation for the great success of the Azerbaijani and Turkish states for a long time to come.
