MP Arzu Nagiyev  spoke to  sumgayitxeber.com  about the  60th anniversary of Sumgayit  State  University  and  the role  of the University in the development of the region.

Arzu Nagiyev said that in recent years, in addition to their activities, higher education institutions  are expected to play a more decisive role in regional development: "Generally, in our modern era, universities have a mission to serve society , education  and research. Around the world, we often come across discussions about the creation of new universities in the regions  far from big cities.  I think Sumgayit  State University, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year is important for the region."

The deputy noted that Sumgait  State University not only educates Sumgait youth, but also students from different regions of Azerbaijan and even foreign countries: "This is important for the development of education both in the city and in our country. In general, it is necessary  for universities to specialize in areas relevant to the region and contribute to the development of their region.
